Mooing Marvellous Online Task Management
Previously I’ve been using Ta-da List from 37Signals to keep track of all the various jobs I’ve got to do, either at the office, at home or on the road. I chose Ta-da List as it was incredibly simple, just a list of tasks you could tick off. After while though the flaws with Ta-da List became clear, you can’t easily see all the tasks you have to do across multiple lists, the iPhone version is incredibly slow and clunky, you can’t set a due date against each item (although I’m sure 37Signals would claim this as a feature).
All of these niggles led to me trying out a few other online task managers, in the end I settled with Remember The Milk. At first I wasn’t sold, the interface didn’t look as clean or as simple as I’d like and adding tasks required several clicks to set additional information such as due dates. Then I discovered the keyboard shortcuts, these turn Remember the Milk from an average to-do list application to a powerful and quick to-do list application. Now I can manage all my to-do lists without the need to even leave the keyboard, such a timesaver.
I was so impressed with Remember the Milk that I’ve signed up to the pro account (costs $25) which gives you access to the iPhone application. Well worth the hefty fee in my eyes. As it is a proper application (not web based) it feels slick, changing views is quick as is adding and editing to-do items. With the introduction of push notifications in the latest iPhone OS release Remember the Milk will even moo when a task is about to become due.
If you’re in the market for a to-do list application and don’t mind using a web based version then Remember the Milk is well worth checking out.
